Super Bowl MVP, Heisman
Winner Desmond Howard Enjoys "Many Happy Returns" in
Cayman Islands
Although Desmond Howard's planned return to the Super
Bowl was cut short by the Detroit Lions' first-round
loss, Howard still enjoyed himself during Super Bowl
week as he learned to scuba dive in the Cayman Islands.
Howard, MVP of Super Bowl XXXI, joined hundreds of
scuba diving enthusiasts on Grand Cayman Island for the
annual Scuba Bowl event, sponsored by the Cayman Islands
Department of Tourism, Cayman Airways and the Cayman
Islands Watersports Operators Association.
The return specialist, who returned a kick-off for a
touchdown to seal a Super Bowl victory for the Green Bay
Packers in 1997, said the island's warm waters and
colorful coral reefs make it the only place, other than
the end zone, where he guarantees a "return" visit.
"Scuba diving has been something I've always wanted
to try and I can't wait to come back and try it again,"
the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner said.
During his time on the island, Howard had the
opportunity to meet well-known scuba diving figure, Jean
Michel Cousteau, son of the famed diving legend Jacques
Cousteau. Howard was treated to a variety of island
delicacies and toured the historic Pedro St. James
castle.
